Uninstall the game, DirectX, or the patches?

Ok I first tryed uninstalling all my modified files. I launched the game, and then it crashed immediately, couldn't even get to the menu. So I rebooted the comp, launched the game and it worked, I created a new profile and launched a new game. It still worked fine at this point, so I reinstalled...

The only files I've modified are the splash screens : EA logo, Intel and ATi fking time-wasting splash screens. I also installed some skins, and I've changed the picture for the intro animation with lionhead studios logo. I'm gonna load my backup files and i'll tell you if it changes anything...
