Solved it: I started a new game then exiting to the main menu during creature selection. Then I could load the saves no problem. The only problem was that it left with with no visible creature stats (role, health, hunger etc.)

I just picked this back up recently and made it to Land 7 without any issues (thank you Handsome Matt! Your patch has been amazing and I really appreciate the hard work!). I beat the land, saved, and called it quits for the night before transporting to the next land. Now I get that the core...
